Hiking near NYC: Sterling Forest State Park

This trail was amazing, about five miles of pure serenity, with river crossings and a few steep climbs. I recommend this for any first time hikers that want a long, quiet, beautiful great high/low hiking trail.

Spanish guy and I were all smiles and the length was just right for us. The weather was amazing today as well, 65 degrees. After hiking along a flat road and up a light hill, we had to take off our shoes to cross the river, and the sensation on the bottom of our feet felt like a cold stone massage.  At the beginning of the trail we passed by (what we later found out were) relics of former mining activity. Old beautiful abandoned buildings from the 1700's They were beautiful and erie. The hike ended with a few short steep rocky paths and brought us straight out to our car. It was perfect for our Sunday afternoon. We had a nice lunch afterward.

Oh yeah, it's only 45 minutes from NYC as well!

Sunday Morning Nature Craving

It's a sunny cold day in NYC and it's Sunday morning. I'm up extra early today to write an OP-ED for a newspaper, but as I sit by my window, I'm experiencing emotional cravings for the park. As soon as I'm done, I'll enjoy my coffee and go for a run/walk through the six miles of Central Park splendidness, starting with the Northern Woody Area. YES!

(I'm trying to get back in the habit of documenting my inner thoughts via Blogger, I've been slacking these last few months, mainly because my career took off really fast and I lost much more personal time, but I'm reclaiming that time and re-imagining what it looks like for me!)

A couple that plays together, stays together.

We woke up early on Saturday to seize the day.
After enjoying a leisurely breakfast on our cute bistro table, we headed up to Prospect Park. Saturday is soccer day for Spanish guy. We walked up through Park Slope together, when we arrived,  I said hi to all the soccer players then went for a jog around the park (it was nice to just be able to jog, not "train", so I was happy). Afterwards we walked through the Park, passed the lake, hopped over horse manurer, kicked the leaves around, skipped hand-in-hand, laughed and afterward got a hot chocolate to warm ourselves up for the walk home.

It was so plesant. I don't think we knew how important it was to be in nature and play together. It really made us happy and it set the tone for the rest of the weekend...
