on friendship

I've been thinking a lot about what makes a good friend, and more importantly if I am a good friend to others. I mean, we all have our short comings, and I recognize mine. I'm picky with who I want to be around, but does that make me childish or dare I say -- UNREASONABLE? I just feel like life is short, so why spend it with people you aren't comfortable around?

In my weekend reflection about this, I realized that good friends shouldn't ever judge or attack you for having different beliefs or habits than them, they shouldn't call you names or make you feel bad. They should nurture and support you. They should make you feel comfortable to say and talk about anything, they should support you (unless its a dangerous or horrible thing you want to do/ are about to do-- than this should be voided) and most importantly they should be loyal and trustworthy. This is the type of friend that I want to be and that I hope I have been. This is the type of friend that I want to spend time with.

I want to feel 100% comfortable with them and them with me. I want to travel with them, I want to be able to talk about anything and introduce them to anyone without feeling like they have ulterior motives. I want them to be able to have their own happy life and if we don't speak for a long time and we see each other again, we just pick it up from where we left off the last time, full of love and happiness. I want to laugh and cry with my friend and love them unconditionally. I guess in a way its similar to a romantic relationship, and those are difficult to maintain. Friendship is as well, but like any good relationship, it needs nurturing and openness.

But I have to keep in mind, we are only human, right? And humans are not perfect beings...

What do others think about this?

Exploring the Upper West Side

I took a long walk through my new hood on Sunday morning, it was a bit dreary and nippy, but I enjoyed exploring nonetheless.

I discovered an outdoor flea market on seventy-something street and Columbus Ave, tons of independent cafes, a few small parks and best of all -- a HUGE farmers Market behind the Museum of Natural History. I always wanted to be the type of girl who shops at the Famers Market on Sunday mornings with a long flowing dress on and my hair loosely tied up, big smile with not a care in the world! Theres just something so refreshing about it...

Although it was cold, signs of Spring were everywhere. Its nice to change environments, so very nice...

I'm in: The Brooklyn Half Marathon!

I signed up for the Brooklyn Half Marathon today and I'm so excited because I've wanted to run this for years and could never get in because it literally gets filled up in hours. So today, by accident, I saw that it was open, I stopped everything that I was doing and signed up AND IM IN!

I'm going to feel so great running through my own streets! This is like a DREAM!

Craziness in Vermont

I went on a snow boarding, mountain adventure this weekend with my loves. It was crazy! We celebrated St Paddys day (some of us spent it in prison, Im not saying more about that, lol), we went walking along the river, and best of all we snow boarded in 60 degree weather! Fun Times! When you get a lot of big personalities in one house together, you never know what will happen! FUN!

culture and new experiences

I spent a beautiful evening at Lincoln Center. Its always nice to experience different places and events.

It was a night of cultural documentaries, with parmesan truffled popcorn and goobers! SCORE!

Documentary film is the most entertaining way to gain knowledge and the best way to preserve a story. I'm a fan.

Running in Central Park

I had the blessing and luxury of stepping out of my apartment this morning, crossing the street and running the reservoir in Central Park. I couldn't stop thinking about how lucky I am to live across the street from one of the most famous/ beautiful parks in the world. There were lots of happy and seemingly healthy people there. Its nice to be surrounded by a good vibe and positive energy.

Life, how funny it can be sometimes. Just when you think it cant get any better...

This is what I find across the street from me:

I'm going to be in the best shape of my life living here! I look forward to seeing this everyday!

UPCOMING TRAVEL ADVENTURES

I have lots of trips coming up that I'm super excited about -- they keep my soul happy and life exciting:

Next weekend I'm traveling with a huge group of friends to Vermont for a snowboarding/skiing adventure. The following week I managed to get a free trip to Costa Rica with a dear friend! I haven't explored Latin America as much as some other places, so I'm looking forward to it. Actually Costa Rica, among others, has been on my list of countries to visit for a long time.

Hopefully when I get back I'll be able to book a cheap flight to Florida to visit my cousin that I miss so much!

The first weeks of July I'll be in Massachusetts! :D

The summer in NYC is vacation in and of itself!

I LOVE TRAVEL!

Brooklyn nights

Friday nights will be my BROOKLYN nights until further notice!
:D

Gotta stay loyal to my friends and the culture.

improvements

My quality of life improved by 100%. I would never think that I would like living ANYWHERE outside of Brooklyn better than Park Slope.

The Upper West Side is pure luxury, class, culture, and all things magnificent.

I feel so blessed!

cancer prevention.

Cancer is a serious disease.

Please take the time each day to eat right (as close to a foods natural state as possible) and exercise. Also, take the steps necessary to reduce stress and get screened regularly.

This is no joke. Save your life!
