Here in NYC I got slapped in the face.

Slapped in the face with the reality of how things are, the reality of the people around me, the reality of how people think and act. It scares me a little bit.

But most of all it makes me sad at times.

crazy.

my loves.

Me and two of the most important people in my life that are not from NYC. It was a good summer because they were a part of it. XO MY LOVES! I'm thinking of them right now because they are not in NYC, I'm alone and I miss them! I'll see them soon though...

things: part dos

A few of Mendoza's updates:
(yes, I just spoke in the third person :P)

Spanish guy left this afternoon to head back to Spain to take his final exams. I miss him so much and he just left! I'm heading back to Malaga next week, just for one last rendezvous before I start my one-year work contract. All I know is that I'm going to be living it up during my nine days in Spain!

I'm moving into my new apartment next week. I'm going to hook that Shizzzit up! I'm so excited, I love interior design.

I signed up to take my GRE's because I'm applying for PHD programs. I think: why not get my doctorate degree? I mean, I'm only one degree away from getting the highest education possible, why shouldn't I go for it!??

I went on a girls-only fabulous vacation last weekend (blog to come) in Seaside Heights, the Jersey Shore! It was wonderful, and a pure eye-opener to a lot of things.

One of my best friends is here visiting from the west coast, so I'm super happy to be able to spend time with her!

Okay doke, summers been going well so far, not the best, but good enough for me. It always ends with a bang, last year was Florida, Puerto Rico and Spain, this year was New Jersey and will be Spain, then back to NYC! LETS GET IT STARTED!

Block this party!!!! ;P

Brooklyn block parties are awesome!
I didn't realize until yesterday how much I missed that part of Brooklyn's culture!
I grew up in Park Slope, Brooklyn and every summer there was one day set aside to celebrate and party with your neighbors. The whole street closes down, the hydrant opens up, sports tournaments are scheduled, its just a great time.
Between the BBQ's, music and warm summer air, its one of the best atmospheres and greatest RAW NYC experiences!
Now that I'm living in a different neighborhood, it was cool to meet my neighbors. They aren't the D'Rosas that lived across the street from me who invited me over for supper every Sunday to eat spaghetti with buttered bread. They aren't the Rodriguez' that lived right next door that always stopped me to have a short conversation before I went into my house, And they aren't the Velez/Vasquez the super cool family that I grew up with and wound up in a world-wind romantic love affair with the oldest son over the years. NO, My new neighbors are new and unique in their own special way.
Junito lives across the street and from the first time I met him he crossed the street and introduced himself to me, from him, I met most of the guys on the block. Majority Puerto Ricans, real cool and open. We Have a Polish lady that is real noisy and quiet that lives next door, but she is friendly, she brings over homemade wine and bread for us. There's also two elementary school teachers (I can't remember their names) that live down the block. I met them yesterday. They were so happy and friendly!

I'm slowly getting to know my neighbors. Although it's not the block that I grew up on, I'm making it my own and slowly inching my way into my new Brooklyn community.

It started with yesterdays block party.

I was happy to have some old time friends join my fiance and I at the day-long party too.

NYC Night Life

I love my life.

I went to the most fabulous club last weekend. It's called Carnival and it's in the Union Square area. It was set to be like a real life carnival. There were games to play, food to eat, cotton candy, popcorn, prizes to win, AND there was a lounge area, AND a dance floor! Plus, it wasn't the rowdy crowd, there were nice people there, all meeting and having a good time. I loved it!

Check out this drink we got!!!
FABULOSO!
There were also stage dancers rocking out with us!

It's times like these that makes me LOVE NYC!

work

So it's 7:30pm and I'm still at work. I got here at 9am this morning. My schedule will probably be like this for the next three weeks until my students finish their films and we have the premiere screening. I don't mind it at all, because I see an end in sight and I LOVE my students, they are so fun and energetic.

Okay, they are importing their footage from todays video shoot. Gotta get to it...

engagement party

Planning this engagement party is harder than I thought it would be, but I think I finally have the plan that I (and everyone else) am satisfied with. Let me just be absolutely certain before I start spreading rumors on Blogger and leaking information.

I don't want to be like Clinton.

I got to Sesame Street

Can you tell me how to get... how to get to Sesame Street...
YES! it's in Kaufman Studios in Queens, and my students and I happened to get a VIP tour of the studios, which is NOT opened to the general public!

After seeing the set of Nurse Jackie, then moving over to another set to see the Men in Black crew getting it all together (that was pretty cool to see, especially with all the anticipation), we moved on to Sesame Street.

Its weird, because when you are growing up, as a child, you ALWAYS want to go to Sesame Street, and you dream of seeing Elmo, Big Bird and company. Parents know that it will probably never happen, but after 28 years of living, I made it to Sesame Street!

Not only did I make it, but I climbed into Oscars Garbage Can (okay, lets save all the "trash" jokes for another time) and saw Big Birds NEST!!!

When I get married and have children, i will show them these pictures and I'm sure they will be so proud that their mommy actually made it to Sesame Street!
WOW!
