Family bonding

I had an amazing mini-vacation. We rented a Villa at Fernwood Hotel & Resort in the Poconos (yes, its still a cool place to go, lol-- actually it's still stuck in the 90's, but thats besides the point, lol). The Villa was an amazing place. There were two bedrooms with an en-suite bathroom with a jacuzzi, the bedrooms had sliding doors which led to private patios on the bottom level, a living-room, dining room and full kitchen with a balcony on the second level and a loft with two more beds on the "third" level.

It also had two pools, an arcade, a restaurant...

Anyway, it was nice to have a house to stay in instead of a hotel because we were able to wake up together, my whole family (father, brother, step-sister and husband) I mean, and cook breakfast together, eat, and just do nothing.

We didn't have a lot of time to do "nothing" because we WENT SNOWBOARDING! It was my first time and I have to say, I think I did pretty damn good for not knowing anything about it. It was a great bonding experience for us and something that I scratched off my list of things I wanted to do this year! YAY!

the excitement is killing me

Getting to bed early tonight. Spanish guy and I, along with a few people in my family, are going on a mini vacation to Pennsylvania.

We are going skiing, snow-tubing and horse back riding!

I cant wait, Im bursting at the seams to get there!

Fun times await.

I have a vacation planned every month for the next few months. THIS IS HOW I LIKE TO LIVE MY LIFE! SUPER HAPPY AND FREE!

My Don Coqui experience

I went to Don Coqui this weekend with a few of my friends.

This place sparked my interest because I heard it was owned by two Puerto Rican women whose father was the owner of Jimmys Bronx Cafe. I used to go to Jimmys when I was in my early 20's. It was the latin hot spot, and it was the beginning of my clubbing days, so it holds a special place in my heart.

It seems as though Jimmy passed the torch on to his daughters. This place was great! No entrance fee, free coat check, BUT super expensive food ($25 a plate on average) and drinks ($12 Mojitos, but they were good).

We had dinner at midnight and danced the night away to freestyle, old-school reggae, and salsa.

All around good night with classy Latinos, just how I like it!

I recommend this place to my fellow Latinos.

eleven months married

Spanish guy and I celebrated 11 months together (well, not exactly together--physically, haha, but married), yesterday.

He made a fabulous meal for me of grilled asparagus with melted cheese sauce, guacamole and chips and bought Argentinean wine from Mendoza! BUAHHAHAaaaa-- sorry, I got carried away.

Oh yeah, and he made (from scratch) chocolate mousse, WITH DARK CHOCOLATE. I was definitely spoiled more than usual last night!

It was topped off with great conversations on life and philosophy.

We are now in the last month of our first year of marriage.
Crazy.

the benefits of juicing

I woke up this morning to a pleasant side-benefit associated with juicing. I only made juice for dinner for two nights in a row and I lost three pounds! I mean, its not my intention, to loose weight, but who doesn't want to drop a few?! I'm juicing to get the nutrition I need to be healthy inside and out so that I don't get cancer, so that my intestines are healthy, and so that my blood flows well and my brain is nourished. ALSO-- Juice tastes A LOT better than the actual vegetable (says Spanish Guy)-- (I think the veggie whole is good too)!

Okay, enough about all this. I just wanted to share my little lifestyle change with you all. :)
Thanks for listening.

Juicing and health

We are on a juicing kick. We always loved veggies, but now we are incorporating a lot more into our diet in the form of juice. I want to heal my insides and as a result, everything will be beautiful and healthy on the outside.

We begin today!

PS: This is $30 worth of fruits and veggies, not so bad...

Book Swapping in Bed Stuy

Spanish guy & I were invited to a fabulous event last night, by an old High School friend of mine, called Sip & Swap at One Last Shag in Bed Stuy. The idea is that you bring in books that you have read and are just sitting in your house-- and you swap them for other hard or paper backs. I brought in four great ones, and had high hopes of what to swap them with...

One of the fabulous books I grabbed is titled, "Writers Dreaming", the story of about 20 famous writers and their creative process. This is just what I needed to begin writing my book again (I started writing a book over two years ago, then my laptop was stolen and the process came to a hault)! It was perfect! After we swapped our books, Spanish guy got a few as well, we sat down for a pint or two and enjoyed the new environment.

What a GREAT NYC experience, and how nice it was to get out into a different neighborhood, I really enjoyed it.

FABULOUSNESS

Im feeling FABULOUS today! Maybe it was the early morning run, or maybe it was the fresh vegetable juice and lentil soup I made, or maybe my mani, pedi (done by me) whatever it is, Im running with it!
MUCH LOVE TO EVERYONE!

Jury Duty

I'm in Jury Duty right now performing my CIVIC DUTY. Its not as bad as I thought it would be. Im in a big modern room, equipped with wifi, I got called in to serve on a case, but wiggled my way out of it because of moral reasons, so now I'm back down here in the general waiting area. The seats are wide and comfortable, so Im okay. Lets see what happens...

my 2012 travel plans (so far)

Being a Sagittarius, I have a constant and urgent need to travel. And usually I fulfill that need with mini-vacations around the world.  Cool, huh?

So you could imagine the thrill I felt when today I found out that I'll be going to Boston (never been-- or at least not that I can remember) for my anniversary weekend AND I got a FREE TRIP to Costa Rica for SPRING BREAK! On top of this, Ill be going to Florida, and am planning a trip to Israel for this summer!

My soul is happy! 2012 is going to be a BIG ONE! WOO-HOO!

Accomplishments in 2011

I wanted to reflect a bit more on 2011.

Its nice to think about positive events that have happened and look back to see what you did correctly, instead of focusing on the negatives (and believe me, I had my fair share this year). As I enter my first week of 2012, I'd like to make a list of all my 2011 accomplishments:

  • I RAN THE NYC MARATHON!
  • I traveled to Miami THREE times.
  • I went to California for the second time in my life.
  • I got married. Had a bachelorette party and a bridal shower.
  • I got a promotion at work and am making a lot more money.
  • I am in the best shape of my life and kept a steady, healthy weight!
  • I spent a long weekend in Spain.
  • My students created an amazing documentary on foreclosures.
  • I made new friends and dropped old ones that didn't make me feel good inside.
  • I partied every night in the summer under the stars and met some great people.
  • I laughed like I never have before.
  • I survived a hurricane and I made it through my mothers second diagnosis of cancer.
  • I continued blogging and documenting my life.
  • I went boogie boarding!
  • I went tubing down a river for a few hours.
  • I went kayaking in the East River, NYC!
  • I ran six short races.
  • I spent a night with an opossum.
  • I went on a honeymoon (ooo-la-la)
  • I partied with my dad.
  • I gained a new step mom and step sister.
  • I lived alone.
  • I celebrated Easter with friends instead of my family.
  • I feel in love with sushi (veggie rolls)
And there you have it, happiness prevailed!

Am I a gypsy?

So I just realized that in the past five years I've had eight different addresses, es decir, I've lived in EIGHT different places! In THREE different countries! Isn't that CRAZY? This CANT be normal! I'm about to move again, so that will be nine. What ever happened to stability? Isn't that what people naturally crave? Why AM I SOOOOO different than everyone else?

The question now becomes -- AM I A GYPSY?

Ending 2011

I ended 2011 with a Blast. I hit the Triple 7's in Atlantic City, then the next day Spanish guy and I traveled to Coastal Connecticut and spent a beautiful night together. The vibe was laid back, and we spent the morning on the beach after eating French Fries, Pancakes and a Banana for breakfast. It was Splendid.

Then for New Years I partied it up with my chica. Very nice end of a crazy year!
(Another post coming soon)
