"keep what is worth keeping and with a breath of kindness blow the rest away"
-- Arabian Proverb
I happened upon this quote today and I thought it was a perfect way of expressing how I am feeling right now and a great was for verbalizing my philosophy on life.
I've never thought much about Arabian Proverbs but after finding this one, I was curious about what else is out there that I haven't found.
Lets start with this one though:
"keep what is worth keeping"
--think about what is important to your self development, to your happiness (real happiness, not desperation, not something that makes you happy once in a while, and not something that you THINK you need to be happy, but in reality you would be much happier without.)
"with a breath of kindness blow the rest away"
-- If you don't want something, someone, or an experience, get rid of it in a positive way. Hold back anger, express love.
(Contemplating in a Moorish surrounding--GRANADA, ANDALUCIA, ESPANA)
When I heard this quote, I immediately thought of my recent relationship. He & I were perfect together for over a year. I never had a more perfect relationship and neither had anyone I knew. THEN-- I moved to Spain and it all changed. He wasn't treating me the way I NEEDED to be treated-- I mean, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing like it was before. I knew it was hard for him-- the distance-- more so than me, but nevertheless, I was willing to live through it, even though I was holding back on a lot of experiences because of it. Pretty soon we both said, "that's it, we are so in love with each other but it's too hard to deal with the distance". So we parted. I saw him one last time in NY, and that was it. I still send my love, and I'm sure he sends his, but we parted kindly, with much love.
This is similar to how I have parted with others in the past. All this hatred and anger at the end of relationships is not my style. It will always come back to you-- in one way or another.
So before I even discovered this quote, the Arabians , for centuries & centuries, were living, following this way of life. I admire them.
"keep what is worth keeping and with a breath of kindness blow the rest away" That's my advice.
