Living a Double Life

I recently returned from a long trip to Spain, the same town I lived in for two years and the same town that my husband is from.

I’ve been there many times, but this time I really felt like I had built a community of family and friends. We went out everyday with our friends and family. I knew and greeted the people who worked in the cafes and the shops who I saw almost everyday while I lived there. I knew the streets like the back of my hand, and I visited family who welcomed me with open arms, and hugged me super tight.

It’s so strange to live two different lives, but its kind of cool. When I’m there, I’m a  free spirit and happy, I don’t have many responsibilities, I go with the flow, I’m not necessarily a leader, I do what everyone does- go to the beach, eat, drink, and sleep. There’s not much more than that (besides running and boogie boarding). I’m pretty adaptable there. In NYC, I’m super busy and individual. I do my own thing, write in my journal, go to boot camp classes, I’m a professional with SO MANY responsibilities, sitting on two board of Directors, I run a youth program, and I consult. I’m a leader in NYC and I hardly have time to enjoy and relax.

Because these two lives are so different, I’m constantly missing one or the other and I cant seem to find a way to have the both that satisfies me. What can I do about this?

This last trip has shown me that I need to make some changes. I need to simplify my NY life and I need to get to Spain more. Now I have to map it all out…

the best thing about living a "guiri life" is that you DON´T have to choose one or the other! each "lado del charco" gives us exactly what we want, whether it´s family, outings, peace, responsibility... and you being who you are, Christine, you are capable of having all the wonderful things of Spain right with you in NY, and vice versa. enjoy this ride called life! xo

Pues yo me quedo con la vida espanola!! El bienestar, la salud y la felicidad es lo mas importante. Think about that!
